Applications

To apply for a place in the Master of Marketing you will need to satisfy the entry requirements.

Essential entry requirements

  • An undergraduate degree, any discipline. Applicants should provide evidence of this degree in the form of full academic transcripts. A copy of a degree certificate is not sufficient. Prospective students without formal tertiary qualifications should contact the MBS Beijing Office to discuss their study options.
  • A minimum of two years full-time work experience gained after graduating from your undergraduate degree. This experience can be in any organisation or industry and need not be in a marketing role.
  • Demonstration of English proficiency, such as IELTS, TOEFL, GMAT, TEM-8 or CET-6. This requirement is waived if your undergraduate degree was done in English, and if you have Proof of Australian citizenship or Australian permanent residency.
  • Applicants will be asked to provide two references and to respond to a number of questions about themselves and their goals in support of their application.
  • Interview. Candidates for the Master of Marketing program will be required to attend an interview.

The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is not a requirement for applicants with an undergraduate degree. However, it can in some cases enhance your chances of being accepted into the program. In other cases the Selection Committee after assessing an application may specifically ask the applicant to undertake the GMAT.

If you plan on doing part of your Master of Marketing program at Melbourne Business School in Australia, or if you later wish to transfer to one of the degree programs that is only offered at our Australian campus, you will need to submit a GMAT score at that time.

Essential supporting materials

  • A completed Melbourne Business School Application Form.
  • Your actual degree and transcript of all your post-secondary academic records. These documents will be sighted by the MBS Beijing office, who will then make an official MBS copy under their red seal.
  • Two confidential written referees reports, using the forms included in the application form. At least one referee should be familiar with your employment record.
  • Your resume.
  • Evidence of your citizenship or residency.
  • A passport sized photograph.
  • RMB400 application fee.

Optional supporting materials

You are welcome to supply any additional information that you believe will strengthen your application. Similarly, the School reserves the right to request any additional information that the Selection Committee believes will assist its admission decision. Applications will be processed as soon as all materials are received.

Successful applicants

MBS understands that awaiting the decision of the Selection Committee can be stressful. We therefore respond to applications as quickly as possible - often within two to three weeks of receipt. A formal Letter of Offer is sent to successful applicants detailing the Terms and Conditions of the Offer and setting a deadline by which it must be accepted. The deadline for the Beijing program is normally about three weeks from the date of the Letter of Offer.

Unsuccessful applications

Unsuccessful applicants are notified in writing. The School appreciates that considerable time and effort are required to apply for a place in the program and that it is disappointing to submit an unsuccessful application. However, the School regrets that it is not able to comment on specific factors that may have led to the final decision of the Selection Committee.

Information sessions, school visits and interviews

We encourage prospective students to visit the School and meet with Admissions Office staff. A number of formal opportunities for such visits exist throughout the year:

Information sessions

A program of sessions is run throughout the year. This is an excellent opportunity for you to get more detailed information about the program and meet one of the professors.

MBS Beijing Office visits
